This 18th century Dutch Rococo side table is constructed from walnut and fruitwood with warm brown tones. The serpentine top displays elaborate floral marquetry inlay within an oval central cartouche, surrounded by scrolling foliate motifs that continue across the single wide drawer skirt below. The framework is supported by cabriole legs featuring shell-carved knees and detailed claw-and-ball feet. Natural timber grain variations and traditional joinery are visible throughout the structure. Measuring 78.74 cm high, 96.54 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, this piece functions well as an accent furnishing placed at the end of a sofa in a living room, a lamp table in a study, or a decorative display surface in a traditional hallway. The compact proportions allow it to sit comfortably against walls or beside seating arrangements while providing surface space for lamps and decorative items.

Dutch marquetry of the 18th century is distinguished by elaborate floral, foliate, and scrollwork veneers inlaid into hardwoods like walnut and oak. Influenced by Dutch Golden Age botanical painting, these pieces feature complex marquetry techniques, shaped tops, cabriole legs, and ornate carved foot motifs.

These tables were typically constructed with an oak or walnut carcass, faced with walnut veneers. The decorative inlay work incorporated various contrasting woods, such as fruitwoods, boxwood, and holly, to form precise naturalistic patterns.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut marquetry veneers showing slight natural irregularities, hand-dovetailed drawer joinery if drawers are present, and signs of shrinkage in the timber base. The oxidation and aged patina on both the timber and underside hardware also confirm historic authenticity.

Position the table beside contemporary soft furnishings to allow the detailed marquetry to stand out against neutral textiles. Complement the warm timber tones with understated bronze or glass decorative objects that do not obscure the inlaid surface patterns.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid polishes or chemical cleaners that could lift veneer edges. Maintain a stable ambient climate with controlled humidity to prevent the underlying wood from moving and disturbing the inlaid veneers.
