This pair of Regency wine coasters originates from around 1820 and is made from papier-mache with a black and gold lacquered finish. Each circular piece is decorated around the outer rim with hand-painted gilded foliage motifs featuring leaf shapes and dotted patterns against a dark ground. The smooth black interior contrasts with the ornate gilded border on the exterior. They measure 4 cm high and 14 cm wide.
