This early twentieth century Art Deco coat rack originates from France circa 1930 and serves as a wall-mounted hallway fixture. The piece comprises a rectangular dark brown oak backboard fitted with six black wrought iron scrollwork hooks evenly spaced across the timber surface. Metal mounting brackets project upwards from the top edge of the backboard for attachment to a wall. The dark wood shows a clear grain pattern, while the forged iron elements display looped and curled decorative terminals. Measuring 137 cm wide by 26 cm high with a depth of 17 cm, the rack mounts beside the front door or in an entryway to hang coats, hats, and scarves in a home today.

Art Deco coat racks from the 1920s and 1930s feature geometric proportions, stylized scrollwork, and sturdy materials such as wrought iron, brass, and dark polished woods like oak or walnut.

These pieces were typically constructed with hand-forged or cast iron hooks affixed to solid timber backboards, using joinery techniques designed to withstand heavy daily use.

Authentic period examples exhibit natural oxidation on the metalwork, surface wear around the hooks, original mounting hardware, and hand-finished timber edges rather than modern machine precision.

Position the piece in a modern hallway, boot room, or entryway above a minimalist bench to create functional storage while adding historical character to modern walls.

Clean the timber backboard with a soft cloth and apply clear beeswax annually, while keeping iron hooks free from excessive moisture and applying a light wax layer to prevent rust.
