This George II style walnut dining table dates from the 1920s and functions as an extending dining table for entertaining or family gatherings. The warm brown walnut and burr walnut timber displays finely figured surfaces with herringbone inlay and narrow banding, alongside a beaded frieze and cast brass hardware on the extension leaves. Cabriole legs feature carved shell knees with tapering harebells beneath and terminate in pad feet, joined by four extra supporting legs when extended. Measuring 76 cm high by 212 cm wide and 122 cm deep, the table provides ample surface area for daily meals or larger dinner parties in a dining room or open-plan living space. The traditional English country house aesthetic blends well with both antique and transitional interiors, offering versatile seating arrangements through the inclusion of the extension leaf held securely by brass clips and keepers on wooden runners.

George II style furniture, dating from the mid-18th century, is characterised by graceful proportions, cabriole legs, curved silhouettes, and decorative carving such as scallop shells or acanthus leaves.

These tables typically feature dense woods like walnut or mahogany, constructed using hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and high-quality veneers over solid hardwood frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-saw marks on unfinished undersides, natural oxidisation in protected crevices, period-appropriate brass fittings, and irregular timber shrinkage along joint lines.

Pair the table with modern upholstered dining chairs or minimalist lighting to create an eclectic contrast that highlights the wood grain and carved details.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish twice yearly, avoiding direct heat sources, sunlight, and chemical polish formulations.
