Description:

A striking large Japanese Imari planter, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, richly decorated in the traditional Imari palette of vibrant iron red, deep cobalt blue, and gilded accents. This impressive piece features intricate hand-painted motifs, showcasing the craftsmanship and decorative flair synonymous with Japanese export ceramics of the period.

The planter is paired with a later stand (not original), which complements the piece well and provides a balanced, attractive display. Its generous scale and bold decoration make it an eye-catching statement piece, ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Condition:

Good antique condition overall. There is a visible hairline to the body and base area, as shown in photos. This is stable and does not detract from the overall visual impact or decorative appeal of the piece.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan and is characterised by its distinctive underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red and gilt hand-painted decoration, often featuring floral patterns and decorative panels.

Antique Imari planters are constructed from high-fired porcelain clay, painted with underglaze cobalt blue and enamelled with overglaze polychrome pigments before receiving delicate gilded accents.
