FAQs

The Regency era, spanning the early 19th century in Britain, is defined by Neoclassical influences, symmetry, and refined woodwork. Key elements include the prominent use of rich mahogany, splayed legs, brass accents, and motifs inspired by ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities.

Tables from this period were predominantly crafted from solid or veneered mahogany, highly prized for its grain and rich warm tone. Construction typically featured hand-cut dovetail joints, carved splayed feet, and sturdy central pedestals or quad-form bases.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-planing on undersides, natural shrinkage lines along wide timber panels, and genuine age-related patination. Secondary woods such as pine or oak are frequently found in internal drawer linings or underside framework.

Position the table as the central anchor of a main living space, pairing rich timber tones with neutral linen upholstery or contemporary velvet sofas. Contrast the traditional timber by displaying modern art books, marble accessories, or simple glass floral vases.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources or intense sunlight to avoid timber movement and sun bleaching.
