Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tilt-top table features a hinged top mechanism mounted on a central pedestal, allowing the circular or oval surface to fold vertically when not in use. Popular throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these tables were engineered to conserve floor space in living areas and tea rooms.

These tables were typically crafted from solid timber such as pine, oak, or mahogany, featuring a turned central stem supported by three hand-shaped cabriole or swept legs. Decorative paint finishes were applied directly to the primed wood, often featuring geometric or botanical motifs.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut catch mechanisms beneath the tabletop, hand-turned pedestals, and original joinery where the tripod legs meet the central column. Signs of natural timber shrinkage, wear around the feet, and period-correct fixings also indicate age.

Position the table in an unused corner, beside an armchair, or in a hallway as an accent piece. The decorated tabletop can be displayed vertically against a wall when space is limited, or laid flat to hold a small table lamp and books.

Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive sponges that can strip the paintwork. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and humid environments to prevent timber warping and paint flaking.
