A fine Edwardian taxidermy tableau by S. King of Hereford, featuring an otter with a fish, preserved within its original naturalistic case. The otter is modelled in a dynamic, alert stance on a rocky riverbank, with the fish positioned at its feet. The scene is set within a glazed case with a painted backdrop and a rocky base dressed with reeds, mosses and grasses, creating a lively and atmospheric waterside setting. The case retains its original trade label for “S. King, Taxidermist, 78 Eign Street, Hereford”, placing the piece firmly in the Edwardian period. King’s work is increasingly sought after for its characterful modelling and evocative provincial style, and this example is particularly appealing. A wonderfully decorative and collectable piece of British taxidermy.
All measurements are done to the widest point .
