Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century William IV library table is made of dark brown rosewood with striking figured grain and depth of tone. The rectangular top sits above two frieze drawers fitted with small round dark wooden pull knobs and flanked by carved scroll brackets. The table stands on carved tapered pedestal supports with lotus collars and turned stretcher rails, resting upon sledge feet with brass castors. Measuring 74 cm high, 122 cm wide and 84 cm deep, it provides practical surface space and storage. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a writing desk in a home office, a study or a library. It functions effectively against a wall or freestanding in the centre of a room due to its finished appearance on all sides. The warm timber tones and traditional proportions integrate well into period rooms as well as contemporary settings needing a workspace.

FAQs

Produced between 1830 and 1837, William IV furniture bridges the Regency and Victorian eras, characterised by robust proportions, architectural forms, and prominent carved details such as acanthus leaves and lotus scrolls.

Cabinetmakers during this period frequently utilised exotic hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often featuring solid carcasses finished with highly figured veneers, dove-tailed drawer joints, and turned stretchers.

Look for characteristic design elements including heavy end-standard supports, carved lotus or gadrooned collars, turned stretchers, brass castors, and hand-cut dovetail joints on frieze drawers.

Position the piece as a freestanding executive desk in a home office or place it behind a sofa as a substantial console table paired with modern brass lighting and abstract artwork.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or bleaching. Clean surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
