This small 19th-century picture frame follows a Rococo Revival style, fashioned from wood and gesso with a gold leaf finish. The piece displays a distinct gold colour throughout, showing textured grounds along the deep swept borders and edges. Elaborate ornamentation covers the surface, incorporating shell mouldings at the corners, acanthus scrollwork and detailed relief carvings. Minor losses to the gesso are visible in a few areas of the surface, demonstrating signs of age on the antique item. Measuring 30.5 cm high, 28.5 cm wide and 7 cm deep, the frame works well when hung above a mantelpiece in a living room or study to display paintings or photographs.
