Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 19th century, Victorian rosewood lamp and games tables were designed as versatile occasional furniture for drawing rooms and parlours. They typically featured compact proportions, folding or drop-leaf tops, and detailed carved accents reflecting the periods preference for rich tropical hardwoods.

Victorian cabinetmakers utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, and walnut, prioritizing deep grain figure and stability. Items were assembled using traditional joinery, including hand-cut dovetails and mortise and tenon joints, finished with hand-carved ornamentation.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature characteristic dark graining with reddish or deep brown tones, period-correct construction techniques on the undersides, and original timber patination. Stamped maker marks from prominent workshops, such as Gillows, further assist in verification.

A Victorian rosewood side table can serve as an accent piece beside modern upholstered seating or placed in a quiet reading corner. Pairing the dark timber with contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a clean, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding harsh aerosol cleaners and excessive moisture. Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the finish and protect the timber from drying out near direct heat sources.
