Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Napoleon III jardiniere planter and wine cooler is crafted from ebonised wood and walnut veneer, finished with striking black and gold tones and floral and foliate marquetry inlays. The oval table incorporates gilt bronze or metal ormolu mounts, a pierced brass gallery edging the rim, and a green metal liner, supported by curved cabriole legs. Additional details visible include delicate brass mounts accentuating the legs and a shaped undershelf connecting the supports. Measuring 82 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, this versatile piece fits neatly into a bay window or living space as a decorative plant stand or a traditional wine cooler for entertaining guests.

FAQs

A jardiniere table is an elevated decorative stand crafted specifically to display indoor plants or floral arrangements, originating in France during the 18th century and becoming widely popular throughout the 19th century.

These pieces commonly feature hardwood frames finished with ebonised lacquers, inlaid with floral marquetry using contrasting timbers, adorned with cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, and fitted with removable metal liners.

Authentic period pieces generally feature hand-cut joinery, heavy cast bronze mounts secured with hand-slotted screws, natural oxidisation on metal surfaces, and genuine age-related wear to the ebonised finish along handling edges.

Position the piece near natural light sources such as a bay window to display indoor plants, or style it as a standalone decorative accent table in a hallway or living room.

Dust the woodwork using a soft dry microfibre cloth and apply neutral beeswax sparingly, while ensuring the metal liner remains completely dry to protect the surrounding timber from moisture.
