Traditional French farmhouse tables originated in rural households as durable, utilitarian surfaces for food preparation and communal dining, typically characterised by sturdy timber construction and generous proportions.

Nineteenth-century French tables were predominantly constructed from locally sourced regional hardwoods such as walnut, oak, chestnut, and fruitwood, selected for structural integrity and longevity.

Authentication involves examining construction details such as hand-cut joints, timber shrinkage patterns, tool marks, and natural patination accumulated over decades of use.

An antique wooden table can be integrated into modern spaces by pairing it with minimalist seating to create a balanced contrast between historical texture and clean architectural lines.

Maintenance requires keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the grain.
