Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A koro is a traditional Japanese vessel designed for burning incense, frequently featuring a pierced lid to allow smoke to escape. Imari koro are crafted from porcelain in the Arita region and decorated in characteristic underglaze cobalt blue, iron red, and enamel detailing.

Imari porcelain is constructed from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to create a vitrified ceramic body. Decorative designs are achieved through a combination of underglaze cobalt blue application followed by overglaze enamel painting and gilding fired in subsequent lower-temperature kilns.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-painted brushwork with slight natural variations, dense cobalt blue underglazes, and iron-red enamelling. Look for characteristic features such as pierced lids, lion dog (shishi) finials, tripod legs, and signs of age like foot-rim wear or kiln marks.

An antique ceramic koro functions as a focal accent on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or bookshelf within an eclectic or traditional interior scheme. Pairing the object with dark hardwoods or neutral backgrounds highlights the contrast of its vivid cobalt blue and iron-red patterns.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush around intricate areas like pierced lids and finials. Avoid immersion in water or the use of chemical cleaners, as harsh substances can strip aged overglaze enamels and gilding.
