Antique Victorian Quality Mahogany Circular Sewing / Lamp Table

19th century

An elegant Victorian circular sewing / lamp table in richly figured mahogany. The circular top is supported on a refined U-shaped stretcher descending to a turned central column and a well-formed tri-form base terminating on original concealed castors.

The table has an attractive architectural silhouette, the proportions soft and balanced with a warm, lustrous surface that displays the depth and quality of the mahogany. A piece of both practicality and grace, well-suited to contemporary interiors.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian sewing table, also known as a work table, is a small piece of occasional furniture designed during the nineteenth century to store needlework tools, textiles, and embroidery materials.

These tables were traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often featuring fabric-lined work wells or pleated silk baskets beneath the tabletop.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, solid brass castors, heavy turned central pedestals, and natural age-related patination on the timber.

A sewing table functions effectively as an occasional side table beside an armchair, a bedside accent piece, or a distinctive plant stand in a living space.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent cracking or fading, and clean regularly using a soft cloth and beeswax polish.
