Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian side table, dating from 1850, is fashioned from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and stands 75 cm high, 91.5 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. The piece has a turn-over top revealing a surface area that expands to 90.5 cm wide when open, supported by a turned pedestal stem and a quadform base. Details visible on the structure include carved scroll brackets beneath the top, scroll feet fitted with original brass castors, and light fading across the wooden top surface. In a contemporary home, the table functions practically in an empty corner as a surface for lamps, books, or decorative items, or as a small serving table when entertaining. The design suits an English Country House interior aesthetic, combining traditional nineteenth-century craftsmanship with functional utility for daily use in a hallway, drawing room, or study.

FAQs

A turn-over or fold-top table is a versatile piece of period furniture designed with a hinged top that swivels ninety degrees and opens flat to double its surface area.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid mahogany, rosewood, or walnut for the exposed framework, often pairing them with oak or pine secondary woods for internal supports.

Genuine period examples feature hand-cut joinery, original brass pivot hinges, natural wear along moving mechanisms, and a distinct patina on untouched wooden surfaces.

Positioned against a wall when folded, it functions as a compact console table, or placed in an open living space to serve as an occasional drinks or display surface.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually, keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources.
