Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Paper mache globes became popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a lightweight and durable alternative to solid plaster or metal spheres, constructed by pasting layers of paper over a mould before applying printed map gores.

These globes typically feature a spherical shell made from paper mache or plaster, covered with segmented paper map strips known as gores, mounted on a turned wooden base with a metal meridian ring.

Authenticity is determined by examining the cartographic details, such as historical geopolitical boundaries and publisher marks, alongside the natural ageing and patination of the paper and varnish.

Placed on a study desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece, an antique globe adds a layer of intellectual charm and classic academic styling to both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Preserve the item by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent the paper from fading, and dust gently with a dry, soft cloth while avoiding any moisture or liquid cleaners.
