Fully Restored Antique Circa 1920 Robert Mouseman Thompson Front or Back Door

1900 - 1920
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this super rare, highly collectible, fully restored, circa 1920 Robert Mouseman Thompson front or back door

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price

A super rare find, this piece came to me in rather shocking condition, it has been fully restored to include having numerous timber issues resolved, it’s then been stripped back and traditionally French polished, the end result is a rare collectable one of a kind door in ready to fit condition

I haven’t added any hardware as naturally the new owner will want to select their own, I was thinking a nice wrought iron suite would complement it well

Height:- 196cm

Width:- 80cm -81cm

Depth:- 4.5cm door only plus 5.5cm for the bottom step

Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Arts and Crafts joinery emphasizes visible construction techniques, solid native hardwoods like English oak, and hand-finished surfaces such as adzing. The movement rejected mass industrial production in favour of traditional craftsmanship and structural integrity.

Doors from this era were typically constructed using seasoned solid oak held together with mortise and tenon joints. Upper glazed panels utilized individual glass panes held in place by hand-cut lead cames.

Authentic pieces feature the distinctive hand-adzed surface texture created with an adze tool, along with traditional jointing methods. Most items also feature a carved high-relief mouse, though architectural fittings occasionally omit this or place it discreetly.

An antique external door can be installed as a primary entrance for a period property, or adapted internally as a pantry, cellar, or feature room door. Its warm wood tone and historical texture provide visual balance against modern minimalist backdrops.

Keep the wood nourished using a high-quality beeswax polish applied along the grain. For external installations, ensure the timber is sealed against moisture while preserving the natural patina, and clean the leaded glass gently using neutral soapy water.
