Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mid-19th century folding vanity screen is a multi-panel moveable room partition featuring carved timber frames, upholstered lower sections, and upper glazed or mirrored panels. These pieces were designed to provide privacy, shield occupants from draughts, and diffuse light in European dressing rooms and bedrooms.

These screens were constructed using carved wood frames coated in gesso and gold leaf gilding. The panels typically integrated woven silk or damask textiles alongside clear or mirrored glass sections held together by brass or iron drop hinges.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved joinery, original water gilding exhibiting natural wear or dark red bole showing through, hand-cut glass panels, and period-correct hardware such as hand-cut brass hinges.

An antique screen can be positioned in an empty corner to introduce vertical height and architectural detail, placed behind an armchair to create a framed reading nook, or used as a soft decorative divider in open-plan living spaces.

Dust giltwood surfaces gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush or dry microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners or water that can dissolve gesso layers. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, dampness, and active heat sources to prevent timber movement and textile fading.
