Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

An alms dish is a shallow basin traditionally used in churches to collect monetary offerings or distribute charity. During the 17th century, these items were frequently crafted from hammered brass, often featuring embossed religious or secular motifs.

These dishes were typically made from sheet brass, shaped using hand-hammering and repousse techniques where designs were punched and embossed from the reverse side to create raised surface patterns.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic tool marks, period-appropriate patination, uneven thickness due to hand-beating, and historical wear consistent with centuries of handling and use.

Such metallic pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, mounted on a wall as a decorative accent, or used as a contrasting textural element within modern minimalist or traditional settings.

Preserve the metal by dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip away historical patina, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels.
