FAQs

Jardiniere stands originated as specialised furniture pieces designed to bring indoor plants and fresh flowers into living spaces, becoming particularly popular in prosperous European homes during the 19th century.

These pieces typically feature a wooden carcase decorated with detailed wood marquetry or parquetry veneers, supplemented by cast brass or gilt-bronze mounts and an interior metal liner to hold water and soil.

Authentication involves examining the timber ageing, hand-cut veneer work, construction joints, and the composition of the metal liner and mounts for signs of genuine historical wear and period-correct manufacturing methods.

Such pieces function effectively as focal points in living areas or hallways, contrasting against neutral walls while serving a practical purpose for displaying potted houseplants or floral arrangements.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, cleaning wood surfaces with a dry cloth, and protecting the interior liner from standing moisture.
