This mahogany occasional table is an example of Sheraton Revival furniture from 1900. The piece displays a dark brown polished wood finish decorated with satinwood crossbanding and boxwood line inlays on both the rectangular top and the smaller lower tier stretcher. Four tall, slender tapered legs support the upper surface, joined below by curved brackets that lead to the undertray. The table stands 74 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 42 cm deep. In a modern interior, this compact occasional table serves effectively at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a living room or study. The lower tier provides a convenient open space for small decorative items or daily essentials while the primary surface holds a lamp or drinks.

Sheraton Revival furniture, popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, draws inspiration from the 18th-century designs of Thomas Sheraton. It features refined proportions, straight lines, tapered legs, and subtle marquetry or crossbanded timber inlays.

These tables were primarily constructed using high-quality mahogany or satinwood, decorated with delicate stringing and inlaid borders in contrasting timbers such as boxwood, rosewood, or ebony.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise cabinetmaking techniques, slim tapered square legs, geometric crossbanding, and period-appropriate joinery beneath the tabletop and stretchers.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa, topped with a modern table lamp, brass accessories, or a ceramic vessel to contrast rich antique timber with contemporary elements.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight to prevent shrinkage or fading, and dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth followed by a light application of beeswax polish.
