Description

An antique 19th century gilt-brass monstrance / osensorium, of sunburst form with central glazed lunette and upon a knopped support terminating in a lobed spreading base engraved with panels of leaves and foliage and raised on bun feet. The opening door of the reverse of lunete is lacking glass.

A monstrance is a sacred, ornamental container used in churches to display the consecrated Eucharistic host for veneration and blessing. The host is placed in the central window.
