Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A refectory table is a long, narrow dining table originally designed for communal dining in monasteries during the Middle Ages. The design evolved through the Tudor and Jacobean periods into a standard form for domestic dining rooms.

Traditional refectory tables are constructed from solid hardwoods, primarily oak, featuring heavy plank tops and robust trestle or stretcher-joined bases. Construction often incorporates mortise and tenon joinery held together with wooden pegs.

Authentic revival pieces feature solid oak construction, authentic wear patterns around the lower stretcher, and traditional joinery. Look for signs of hand-carving alongside minor uniform marks consistent with early-to-mid 20th-century woodcrafting techniques.

Pair an oak refectory table with contrasting contemporary dining chairs, such as upholstered or slender leather designs, to balance the heavy timber frame. Complement the wood with a natural linen runner and simple ceramic tableware for a balanced aesthetic.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and surface drying.
