Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency wine cooler, often termed a cellarette, is a specialized wooden chest designed during the early 19th century to store and chill wine bottles within dining rooms. These pieces frequently feature classical architectural forms, such as sarcophagus shapes, and were placed beneath or alongside sideboards.

Traditional wine coolers were crafted predominantly from high-grade mahogany, often displaying decorative flame mahogany veneers. The interior usually contained a zinc or lead lining to hold ice and protect the timber, complemented by brass handles, lock escutcheons, and hand-carved wooden feet.

Authentic Regency cellarettes display hand-cut dovetail joints, original zinc or lead interior linings, and historical hardware showing natural oxidisation. Common stylistic markers of the period include tapered sarcophagus bodies, reeded mouldings, and lion paw or hairy claw feet carved directly from solid timber.

In modern interiors, a cellarette functions as a distinctive accent piece in a dining room, hallway, or living area. It can be placed in an alcove or corner to provide concealed storage for modern spirits, glassware, or linens while adding historical depth to the room layout.

To preserve the timber finish, dust the surface regularly with a soft cotton cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the mahogany veneer from drying, cracking, or fading over time.
