Georgian style serving trays typically feature balanced classical proportions, fine wood selections like yew or mahogany, and delicate decorative elements such as stringing or marquetry.

These pieces were constructed using native and exotic timbers, often incorporating contrasting wood veneers, marquetry inlay motifs, and hand-forged brass carrying handles.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the timber, hand-cut dovetailing or construction joints, the type of inlay materials used, and signs of age-related wear and shrinkage.

An antique tray can be styled functionally as a surface centrepiece on a coffee table or sideboard, or displayed upright to highlight its intricate marquetry design.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding excess moisture, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the polished surface.
