Boiserie originated in 17th and 18th-century French architecture as ornate carved wooden wall panelling used to insulate and decorate interiors. These panels often featured intricate relief work, foliate motifs, and mouldings, reflecting styles such as Louis XIV, Louis XV Rococo, and Neoclassical design.
