This nineteenth-century architectural salvage fragment from the Indian continent originates as a traditional roof decoration, serving historically above doorways to ward off bad spirits. Formed from hand-carved wood, the corbel depicts a central bird with a large beak surrounded by acanthus leaf carvings and topped with a floral finial, resting over a scalloped moulding. The surface displays a distressed pale blue and green painted finish with visible wear to the timber. Mounted vertically on a dark iron rod attached to a rectangular wooden base, the ornament stands 48 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 20 cm deep overall. Today, this traditional Indian folk piece functions as an accent sculpture for display on a mantelpiece within a Glastonbury Boho interior scheme. The mounted artifact combines natural wood grain texture with aged painted detailing, suitable for placement on shelves, console tables, or desks as a decorative focal point.
