This seventeenth-century architectural salvage takes the form of a large rectangular pierced oak panel in a Baroque style, rendered in a warm brown timber. Deep openwork carving covers the surface, depicting a winged putto figure holding an escutcheon shield next to scrolling acanthus foliage that bursts into seed pods, alongside a central rosette and intricate corner mouldings. The physical dimensions measure 70 cm high, 165 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Ideal for interior placement above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway, this decorative wooden element mounts directly onto a wall to serve as a prominent architectural feature within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

Baroque wood carvings from the 17th century are characterised by dynamic movement, high relief, deep carving, and dramatic decorative motifs such as scrolling acanthus leaves, putti, and heraldic shields.

Craftspeople primarily used dense European hardwoods like oak and walnut, executing openwork and relief carvings by hand using chisels, gouges, and hand saws.

Authentic period carvings exhibit hand-tool marks, natural shrinkage along the timber grain, uneven historical wear, and accumulated oxidisation in recessed areas.

A carved timber panel can be mounted as architectural wall art above a sideboard, integrated into modern wall panelling, or placed on a mantelpiece to add texture and historical interest.

Dust the panel regularly with a soft, natural-bristle brush to clean detailed crevices, and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly to protect the wood surface.
