Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Moorcroft pottery was founded by William Moorcroft in 1913 in Burslem, England, following his earlier work at James Macintyre & Co. The studio became globally renowned for its distinctive tubelining technique and rich, vibrant colour palettes, heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement.

Moorcroft pieces are crafted from local clay and decorated using the tubelining method, where outlines of the design are piped onto the unglazed clay with liquid clay slip. These raised outlines form cells that are subsequently hand-painted with multiple layers of metallic oxide glazes before high-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted or impressed makers marks, including William Moorcrofts signature, monograms of later designers, or specific paper labels denoting the period. Genuine items also exhibit the characteristic raised tubelined outlines and deep, glossy glaze characteristic of the Staffordshire kilns.

A Moorcroft jardiniere works effectively as a statement focal point on wooden sideboards, mantelpieces, or entrance consoles, contrasting against minimalist backdrops. It can house small potted foliage or dried stems, or simply be displayed empty to showcase its hand-painted craftsmanship and rich ceramic textures.

Clean antique ceramics gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding abrasive cleaners, chemical solvents, or immersion in water. If used to hold plants, always place a protective liner inside the vessel to prevent moisture from seeping into the porous unglazed base or historic ceramic body.
