Magnifying glasses on stands became prominent during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods as essential tools for reading fine print, maps, and examining delicate items in studies and offices.

Authentic period pieces were typically constructed from cast or turned brass, incorporating weighted bases for stability, optical-grade glass lenses, and sometimes wooden or bone handles.

Authentication involves checking for period-correct manufacturing methods such as hand-turned brass components, makers signatures or patent stamps, minor surface oxidisation, and genuine optical glass rather than modern acrylic.

This piece works well placed on a study desk, bookshelf, or side table alongside leather-bound books and traditional decor to add a touch of scholarly elegance.

Dust the item gently with a soft, dry cloth and clean the glass lens using standard glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than the lens directly. Avoid harsh metal polishes that can remove the aged patina.
