A fine and rare George III pedestal centre table in burr yew wood and in the manner of George Bullock, the tilt action circular top with plain edge and shallow frieze, with gilt brass latch underneath, on a central column shaft with moulded base and raised on four outswept supports with curved knees, terminating with plain brass castors. English circa 1805.
Condition: Overall very good, the table is in excellent condition for its age, the top is secure and sits well, the latch works well and the castors all run, the table has marks and a little fading consistent with age, but overall it has a glorious colour and wonderful patination entirely redolent of the period.
Attribution to George Bullock: Whilst this table is almost certainly NOT the work of George Bullock, there are several factors that suggest his influence: the style of table, the elegant proportions and pared back design, and the use of timber - burr yew is a rare wood and difficult to work with given its tendency to b
...rittleness. The pedestal, strong and simply designed, is particularly reflective of Bullock’s style.
