Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Neoclassical Venetian style coffee table dates from 1920 and follows a grand Regency design vibe. The large rectangular black veined marble top sits above a cream painted frieze decorated with gold Greek key carving and parcel gilding. The base rests on turned reeded tapering legs united by curved stretchers, all finished in cream paint with gold highlights. The visual details include classical gilt ornamentation on the apron corners and central cartouches, alongside fine reeding on the uprights and rich contrast between the dark stone surface and the light frame. Standing 48 cm high, 135 cm wide, and 100 cm deep, the table provides generous surface area for living room entertaining. It suits a spacious drawing room or formal sitting area as a central coffee table, pairing well with traditional or transitional upholstery and furnishings.

FAQs

Venetian style furniture, particularly from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, is known for ornamental carving, painted polychrome or cream finishes, parcel gilding, and classical decorative motifs. These pieces frequently incorporate Greek key fretwork, fluted legs, and inset marble or polished stone tops.

These low tables are generally constructed from carved timber framework coated in gesso, painted in light shades, and accented with applied gold leaf. Table surfaces frequently feature inset black marble, slate, or polished dark stone held within a moulded frame.

Authentic and period-style examples feature hand-carved structural detailing, traditional joinery, subtle craquelure or wear along gilt surfaces, and natural patination across the painted frame and frieze.

Position the table as a central focal point in a living room, pairing it with neutral upholstery to highlight the gilt frieze and dark top. Balance the classical proportions with contemporary tabletop accessories such as structured glass vessels or art volumes.

Dust the giltwood and painted framework gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or clean microfibre cloth to avoid flaking the gilding. Clean the stone top using a pH-neutral solution, ensuring no harsh liquids contact the painted timber elements.
