Rare Helena Wolfsohn Dresden Porcelain Figurines, Grape Pickers, C.1875

£250    $334    €292
An antique and rare pair of porcelain figurines by Helena Wolfsohn, Dresden, circa 1875. Each figure stands beside a vine-covered trunk with baskets of grapes, dressed in refined 18th-century-style attire. Finely hand-painted in polychrome enamels with gilt details, these pieces exhibit delicate facial features and expressive poses.

Marked on the base with the “Augustus Rex” stamp—copied by Wolfsohn from the period’s leading factory—these figurines reflect her workshop’s mastery of high-quality enamel work and refined style. Although the porcelain blanks were supplied by various manufactories, Wolfsohn’s painting and firing elevated them to works of art.

Wolfsohn’s output was exhibited and awarded at major expositions in Berlin, Vienna, and London, celebrated for mythological and pastoral themes. Her factory operated for a short time, making surviving examples extraordinarily rare and highly sought by collectors of 19th-century German ceramics.
