FAQs

Regency cheese coasters, often shaped like cradles or sledges, were designed during the late 18th and early 19th centuries to safely transport heavy wedges of cheese along dining tables without damaging the polished wood surfaces.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, frequently featuring turned wooden handles, curved side panels, and small brass castors underneath for smooth movement.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-turned elements, genuine patina from age and use, and often sit on original brass castors or button feet.

It can be utilised on a sideboard or dining table as a decorative display object, or repurposed to hold small items such as napkins, letters, or seasonal fruit.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish without using harsh chemical cleaners.
