Regency furniture, popular in Britain during the early 19th century, is characterised by classical influences drawn from ancient Greece and Rome, featuring clean lines, dark imported woods like mahogany and rosewood, and refined brass or inlay accents.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood for their durability and fine grain, often incorporating decorative crossbanding, veneers, and hand-turned central pedestals supported by tripod legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails or traditional pegging, natural timber oxidisation beneath the top, and hand-rubbed wax finishes rather than modern polyurethane coatings.

Position the piece as an occasional surface beside a low-profile sofa or in an unused corner to add architectural height, placing a single decorative object or reading lamp on top to balance its slender silhouette.

Maintain antique timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations.
