FAQs

A vendange table, or grape harvest table, is a traditional French table historically used in vineyards during the grape harvesting season. These tables were typically designed with sturdy timber and often featured practical construction to support communal meals for workers.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid regional timbers such as pine, oak, or chestnut. Construction methods typically involve pegged joints, trestle or pedestal bases, and thick planked timber tops designed for durability.

Authentic period pieces display age-related patina, hand-cut joinery such as dovetails or wooden pegs, and natural wear patterns consistent with heavy utility use. Examining the underside and the hardware for period-appropriate manufacture provides further verification.

Pairing a rustic wooden table with contemporary minimalist seating creates a balanced juxtaposition of old and new. The natural wood tone serves as a grounding focal point in open-plan dining rooms or kitchens.

Maintain antique pine by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood. Avoid placing the item in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent timber splitting and fading.
