Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in regional rural France, these tables were handcrafted as functional gathering pieces for homes and chateaux. Typically constructed from locally sourced hardwoods like cherrywood or oak, they feature long rectangular tops and simple, utilitarian proportions.

Craftsmen primarily utilised native European hardwoods such as cherrywood, walnut, oak, and fruitwood. Construction techniques relied heavily on mortise and tenon joinery with wooden pegs, ensuring durability without requiring metal fasteners.

Authentic pieces feature evidence of hand-tooling, original pegged mortise-and-tenon joints, and uneven wear consistent with age along the base and top. Look for natural shrinkage in the wood planks and original timber patination that synthetic finishes cannot replicate.

Pair the timber table with minimalist contemporary seating, such as molded chairs or upholstered dining chairs, to create visual contrast. Position it as a focal centrepiece in an open-plan kitchen or dining room, decorated with simple ceramic vessel arrangements.

Regular dusting with a soft lint-free cloth and occasional application of high-quality beeswax nourish the wood and maintain patination. Protect the surface from extreme humidity changes, direct heat sources, and liquid spills by using trivets and coasters.
