Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Louis XV revival side table takes the form of a serpentine walnut piece rendered in warm brown tones with parcel-gilt highlights. The top incorporates a well-figured timber grain bordered by a pierced brass gallery rail, while the frieze displays a single drawer accented with carved, gilt floral and scroll motifs. Supported on slender cabriole legs, the design includes ornate ormolu mounts and carved scroll feet that display gentle signs of historical wear. Measuring 71 cm high, 82 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface suited for placement at the end of a sofa or as an accent table within a living space or hallway. The sturdy construction accommodates daily domestic use while maintaining its decorative French chateau aesthetic.

FAQs

Rococo Revival side tables from the 19th century feature curved cabriole legs, serpentine aprons, and prominent ornamental details such as shell motifs, scrollwork, and gilded metal mounts.

These tables were typically constructed from solid hardwoods like oak or mahogany, veneered with figured woods such as walnut or rosewood, and embellished with cast gilt bronze (ormolu) or brass gallery rails.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, slight irregularities in hand-cast metal mounts, and natural oxidisation on the underside and metalwork rather than uniform modern plating.

Positioning an ornate period table against a neutral wall alongside contemporary seating creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimal design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to wood surfaces, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilded metal mounts to prevent stripping the natural patina.
