This antique Georgian period walnut side table originates from England and dates from around 1800 to 1820. The piece is constructed from walnut with a warm brown colour tone, visible grain pattern, and polished finish. Design details include a single drawer fitted with a round brass knob pull, and four slender tapered and reeded legs that terminate in small rounded feet. The table measures 71 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. In a modern home, this table functions well as an end table beside a sofa or as a compact lamp table in a hallway or living room. Its polished back allows for freestanding placement away from a wall.

Georgian side tables were produced in Britain between 1714 and 1830, marked by symmetry, classical proportions, and fine woodwork. Timbers such as walnut and mahogany were predominantly used, frequently paired with turned or reeded legs and modest brass hardware.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid walnut or mahogany frames with figuring veneers on top surfaces and drawer fronts. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with cast brass handles.

Authentic Georgian pieces display hand-carved details, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, and genuine timber shrinkage marks consistent with age. Original cast brass hardware and layered natural patination under the finish also indicate period construction.

A period side table functions as an accent piece beside a modern sofa or as a compact nightstand in a bedroom setting. Placing modern ceramics or a structured reading lamp on top creates a balanced contrast between historical cabinetmaking and modern decor.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber finish. Keep the piece clear of direct heat sources, radiators, and long exposure to sunlight to avoid wood movement or fading.
