Provenance - from Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse (née Messel, previously Armstrong-Jones; 8 February 1902 – 3 July 1992), the collection of the late Anne Parsons, Countess of Rose, (nee Mossel, of Nymans, Sussex, previously Armstrong-Jones)
 
1902-1992, Mother of Lord Snowdon and Mother-in-Law to HRH Princess Margaret and resident of Womersley Hall Estate, Yorkshire.
 
Born in London in 1902, Anne Messel was the only daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Leonard Messel and his wife, Maud, the daughter of the celebrated Punch draughtsman, Edward Linley Sambourne. The family’s artistic streak was inherited by Anne’s brother, the leading stage designer Oliver Messel, and her son, the society photographer and filmmaker Antony Armstrong-Jones, later the 1st Earl of Snowdon, who was married to Princess Margaret from 1960-1978.
