VERY NICE 18TH CENTURY FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY ABRAHAM ELISTON OF DONCASTER CIRCA 1785. STEEL BARREL STAMPED DONCASTER TO THE TOP WITH LONDON PROOF MARKS, SIGNED ELISTON TO THE LOCK PLATE. FULL WALNUT STOCK WITH BRASS FITTINGS, BRASS SKULL SPLITTER BUTT WITH BRASS SHIELD AND MASK ESCUTCHEON ENGRAVED WITH THE NUMBER 3. THE PISTOL IS HOLDING STRONGLY ON FULL AND HALF COCK AND IS GENERALLY IN GOOD ORDER WITH MINOR KNOCKS AND A FINE SPLIT TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE STOCK WHICH IS STILL SOLID AND STRONG Abraham Eliston though the name is sometimes spelt as Elston worked from 1783-1793 and produced fine quality weapons for the wealthy gentry in south Yorkshire and those travelling along the great north road who regularly frequented his shop ( the great north road would have been a dangerous place in the late 18th century )
