A mid 19th century (circa 1840) profusely carved Anglo Indian padouk console table, probably from the Bombay region.This table consists of a solid padouk top of fine, faded patina with moulded edge leading down to a carved frieze consisting of carved floral roundels and scrolling foliate decoration with carved gadroon design below.The top is supported on a large carved S scroll support to either side with carved floral roundel decoration below, the sides profusely pierced and carved with scrolling vine designs.The table retaining the original mirror to the rear with carved leaf decoration and central carved floral roundel below, all supported on a shaped plinth base with reeded decoration, terminating on four carved bun feet, the table with old red velvet panel to the back.This style of table with foliate leaf carving is typically found on pieces of furniture from the Bombay region of India dating to around 1840-1860.A very similar design of carving can be seen on a Prie-dieu chair in the book ''Furniture From British India & Ceylon'' by Amin Jaffer on pages 336 & 337, Fig. 153.
