This late 19th-century Anglo-Burmese console table originates from circa 1880 and takes the form of dark brown teak furniture. The construction employs solid timber finished in a deep dark brown tone, shaped with a serpentine front skirt and mounted on legs carved as mythical figures terminating in claw feet. Intricate decoration covers the piece, visible in the pierced foliate carvings across the gallery backboard, the detailed apron skirt, and the carved cross-stretcher centered with a round finial. The woodwork shows deep relief carving throughout every visible surface. Measuring 106 cm high, 154 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, the table suits placement beside the front door in a hallway or entrance area. It provides a flat surface for display items while standing ready for domestic interiors.

Anglo-Burmese furniture from the late 19th century combines traditional Burmese woodcarving techniques with European furniture forms designed for British colonial residences.

Dense Burmese teak is the predominant wood, favoured for its durability, natural oils, and suitability for deep, intricate pierced woodcarving.

Authentic pieces feature dense undercut or pierced floral carving, mythical creature motifs such as chinthe, original joinery, and natural age oxidisation on the teak timber.

Position the piece in an entryway or hallway as a focal point, pairing it with clean-lined contemporary art or neutral wall finishes to balance the visual density of the carving.

Dust regularly using a soft brush to reach inside intricate pierced carving, apply clear beeswax periodically, and keep away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
