Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Gothic Revival extending book rest is constructed from dark brown mahogany with a waxed finish and polished brass hardware. Two shaped sliding end panels sit upon a central wooden base, decorated with pierced strapwork scrollwork and applied brass stud fastenings along their outer edges. The visible woodgrain exhibits rich dark brown tones complemented by warm metallic highlights on the decorative mounts. Measuring 16 cm high by 37 cm wide and 13 cm deep, the adjustable slide mechanism extends to accommodate various volumes of reading material. Placed upon a home office desk, study table or library bookcase, this piece serves as a functional desktop accessory for keeping current reading selections organised and upright.

FAQs

Gothic Revival book rests feature architectural motifs, elaborate brass mounts, and strapwork scrollwork inspired by medieval design principles popular during the nineteenth century.

These items typically combine solid mahogany or walnut timber with pierced brass embellishments, utilizing sliding tongue-and-groove mechanisms to allow length adjustment.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished timber joinery, original patinated brass fittings secured with small screws, and smooth operation along wooden slide channels.

Place the object on an office desk, console table, or sideboard to display curated hardback volumes alongside contemporary brass accents or table lamps.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, polish the woodwork with natural beeswax, and avoid chemical metal cleaners that strip historical brass patina.
