A 19th Century Framed Plaster Plaque, with a Legal and Chelsea Brewery Interest, C1880, 42cm wide.
A handsome 19th century, plaster plaque in relief form with an ebonised frame, the plaque featuring an agricultural scene of 3 men attempting to manually milk a cow whilst wrestling it, titled ‘The Lawsuit’, an humorous allegorical subject that implies the lawyer is ‘milking it’ from his feuding clients.., featuring a handwritten note to the reverse, confirming its history and provenance, linking it to the former Chelsea Brewery on the Kings Road, Chelsea.
The former brewery’s building still remains on the Kings Road, on the corner of Lots Road and commonly known as The Antiques Cave or The Cave.
The plaster plaque has a fabulous timeworn aged surface, the plaque remains in excellent condition, without chips, cracks or loss.
A superb antique plaque with a historical interest.
