The Earl of Leitrim in 1834 was Nathaniel Clements, the 2nd Earl of Co Leitrim and father of William Clements (known as Viscount Clements), an Anglo-Irish nobleman and landlord notorious in Irish history for his mistreatment of tenants during the famine. He succeeded his father as Earl in 1854 and was assassinated in the north of County Donegal in Ireland in April 1878.The National Library of Ireland has two letters from the Earl of Leitrim to George B.
