Original Georgian Late 18th Century Antique Ornate Gilt Deep Moulded Oil Painting Frame

A substantial medium sized Georgian picture frame, suitable for displaying a small period oil painting.

The detailed acanthus leaf carving suggests a design influenced by the Georgian or early Victorian period (18th to early 19th century).The thickness and depth of the frame, along with the stepped profile, are characteristics often seen in 18th-century British or French frames. The gilding (gold leaf or paint) and age cracks suggest it could be authentic or at least an antique reproduction. The cracking and separation at the corners indicate age-related wear, which is expected in antique frames. The gesso layer (the white base under the gilding) appears to be cracking, which is common in older, hand-carved frames.

Condition report: The frame is considered to be in fair to good condition in line with age ~ approx 200 years old. Cracks and wear are visible on this stunning antique piece.
