Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Ormolu mounts, comprising finely chiselled and gilded bronze, became a hallmark of luxury French furniture design during the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently accentuating exotic hardwoods such as mahogany.

These pieces typically combine a dense tropical hardwood structure like mahogany with cast bronze or brass mounts, often featuring a metal liner to protect the wood from moisture.

Authenticity is evaluated through the quality of the bronze casting, hand-cut joinery, timber ageing characteristics, and the presence of period-appropriate fastenings rather than modern screws.

This piece functions effectively as a classical accent in a contemporary space, serving as a structural support for trailing foliage or as an elevated display surface for sculptural objects.

Maintenance requires dusting the timber with a dry lint-free cloth and applying microcrystalline wax periodically, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that could damage the gilded bronze surface.
