Probably from Western Anatolia or the Greek Islands and dating to the early 19th century, this lovely Ottoman embroidery has been worked in silk and metal thread on a very fine linen background. The concentric roundels surrounded by rows of floral sprigs is quite typical of the genre in the 19th century. Delicately worked in pastel shades, the overall impression is very light and pretty. Note the use in the central roundel of magenta silk. Note also the way the floral sprigs face the opposite way in the top half of the composition. It is a lovely piece which would fit in well with modern decorative styles. One can see it working in any number of furnishing settings. Currently it is lined and mounted on a cardboard frame. But this could be easily removed if need be. Professionally cleaned. Some very minor areas of damage and repair to the linen background. Some minor staining. But the overall condition is very good and it is ready for immediate use.
